June 2010You can help make sure your child doesn’t lose precious academic ground during the long weeks of summer. Studies show that all students experience about a month in learning loss during the summer, and for students with dyslexia, the losses may amount to as much as 3 months. Weaknesses in memory, processing speed, attention, and language development cause precious skills to erode more quickly. As a result, students have to spend more time reviewing at the beginning of each school year in order to catch up. Continuing instruction during the summer months can help greatly reduce learning loss. Greengate School holds a summer camp each year for children from first through 5th grade. The four week long camp works to strengthen language, math, art, and study skills for children with reading difficulties. The reading tutorials are conducted by specialists trained in the instruction of children who struggle in reading, spelling and writing . Half and full-day programs are offered. The program is open to all children who are struggling in reading, spelling, writing and math. Children do not need any special testing or learning diagnosis to be eligible to attend the summer reading camp. | When: | Monday, June 14 through Friday, July 9 2010 | | Where: | Greengate School - 1300 Meridian St. N. | | Camp Size: | Limited to 30 Students | | Student Teacher Ratio: | Reading Tutorials are taught one on one daily.
