To ensure the future of our school, we have recruited an outstanding
board from local business people, educators, and parents.Board
President
Barbara Combs is a mother of three including a former
Greengate student. Barbara completed the foundation O-G class in
2003 and has followed that course with several advanced O-G
trainings. Barbara is a reading tutor at Greengate. Treasurer
Tommy Battle is a former City Council member and dedicated
community volunteer. He serves on the Huntsville, Emergency
Management Board, the Early Works Museum Board and assists with
numerous church and community activities. Mr. Battle is also a local
businesses owner who concentrates on commercial warehouse space and
is managing partner for six companies and one retail store. Tommy's
wife Eula (Sammons) Battle, is a teacher at Greengate.
Board Secretary
Halina Hale, Ph.D. is clinical
psychologist, provides evaluations and recommendations for learning
disabilities. Dr. Hale received he Bachelors Degree in psychology from
the State University of New York at Stoney Brook and Doctorial Degrees
from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Dr. Hale and
Dr. Byrne operate the Montesano Assessment and Enrichment center in
Huntsville.
Board Members:
Ana Byrne, Ph.D. is a licensed
psychologist who works extensively with children to develop objectives
and thorough methods of assessing Dyslexia and other learning
disabilities. Dr. Byrne received her Ph.D. in psychology from the
University Miami. Dr. Byrne and Dr. Hale operate the Montesano
Assessment and Enrichment center in Huntsville.
Michele Lucas serves on numerous community organizations
for the benefit of children and the arts. She is the mother of a
successful dyslexic daughter.
Rosalind Marie is nationally certified educational
consultant specializing in college and high school boarding
placements for kids with learning differences.

Marcia Ramsey is the head of the school and former
head of the Montessori School of Huntsville. An educator with 30+ years
teaching experience, Marcia is a trained Orton-Gillingham teacher, a
method developed specifically to address the needs of people with
reading disabilities. Marcia has researched schools for children with
reading disabilities around the country. Marcia is also the mother of a
dyslexic child. Mike Walters is executive vice president of Eurand
Pharmaceuticals Inc. and father of a dyslexic son. Mike is a member
of several local service organizations working for the health and
welfare of children.
Tina White - Ms. White is the Jr.
High Youth leader and on the administrative board for Holmes St. UMC.
She is the mother of a dyslexic daughter, whom she has home schooled
since 2001. Ms. White took the Orton-Gillingham training in the summer
of 2005 and currently tutors children at the church. She has a B.S.B.A.
degree from UAH and has completed one year of the MBA program at FIT.
Mary Shepard Hughes - Greengate School welcomes the return of
Mary Shepard Hughes to its board of directors. Ms. Shepard was on the
faculty of Randolph School for many years serving in a variety of
leadership positions, including Dean of Academics. The education of
students with special learning challenges has long been an interest of
Ms. Shepard’s and she was an early supporter of Greengate. |
